Rory Medcalf worked as a diplomat, intelligence analyst and journalist before joining the Lowy Institute. He has been a senior strategic analyst in the Office of National Assessments. His Australian diplomatic experience included a posting to New Delhi, a secondment to the Japanese foreign ministry and ceasefire monitoring on the Pacific island of Bougainville. His background on nuclear issues has included contributing to three major arms control reports, including the 1996 Canberra Commission. Rory's journalism has been highly commended in Australia's premier media awards, the Walkleys. He maintains a close interest in India, and convenes 'second track' dialogues between experts from that country and Australia. He is Senior Research Fellow in Indian strategic affairs at the University of New South Wales.
