Obama the arrogant?

by Sam Roggeveen - 22 July 2008 4:24PM

Michael Fulllilove has noted before that although the Obama campaign seems to be a well run operation, it is not immune to occasional missteps. The one Michael blogged on was the faux presidential seal Obama used briefly as a stage prop, and now comes another example that just screams hubris:

[Obama] will have a 45-minute meeting on Saturday morning with Gordon Brown followed by a press conference, which Obama will conduct on his own outside Downing Street in a blatant departure from the usual protocol.

There will be no Brown at his side to spoil the No 10 backdrop for American voters, even though it would be unthinkable for a British prime minister to appear in the White House Rose Garden without the president. Brown will say a few words later in the day, once Obama has gone.

Reliable historical indicators point strongly to an Obama victory. But short of some incredible gaffe, which seems unlikely from such a talented politician, what might bring Obama down is a McCain campaign that focuses on Obama's perceived arrogance. This No. 10 stunt will only feed such perceptions.
