From today's Sydney Morning Herald editorial, about the job facing new Defence Minister, Senator John Faulkner:
...fighting the Taliban is a relatively small task compared with the major job ahead of the minister - wielding control over the vast Defence portfolio and its many fiefdoms of fighting services, intelligence agencies, civilian administrators and scientists.
And from the same editorial, a bonus non sequitur!:
That Senator Faulkner comes from the Left faction of the Labor Party means little these days, except it may bring a more questioning approach to intelligence assessments...
