Indian students: Media mistweetment

by Rory Medcalf - 22 July 2009 11:46AM

Here’s a new standard in quick, transparent and truly telegraphic diplomatic reporting, thanks to India’s inveterately twittering Minister of State for External Affairs, Shashi Tharoor. No sooner has he met with Australia’s visiting Immigration Minister, Chris Evans, on the vexed student welfare issue among other things, than we have this followed by this.

Mr Evans, as far as I can tell, does not tweet, and there are no press releases yet on the outcomes of his visit, so for now his message has to be mediated by the mainstream press.

Mind you, in his haste to report, Dr Tharoor seems to have mistweeted himself by leaving out a crucial two-letter word.

This is the archive of a Lowy Institute blog which ran from January to April of 2011. It was published to debate the Gillard Government's independent aid review, which was then in its research and consultation phase. We offer this archive as a service to researchers and the general public.
