Thanks to reader Martin for alerting me to Thomas Friedman's latest NY Times column, lauding Australia and New Zealand as havens of left-liberal politics: we're gay-friendly with government-run health care, carbon reductions schemes on the books and little political space for extremists.

Does this mean we should expect a flood of Manhattanites to our shores when the US Supreme Court repeals Obamacare? Maybe Friedman should have mentioned our ambivalent attitude towards refugees.

He should also know that Australians and Kiwis really, really don't like being lumped together.
